Digital Adoption – What You Need to Know and Where We Are Headed

This may be of interest to you.

Digital adoption is probably a term you’ve been hearing a lot about lately, but really aren’t sure what it is.

As the business world and pretty much everything around us continues to evolve in some digital technological way, it seems like the world and everything in it is talking with each other more and more. Whether it’s home devices connecting with personal devices, or enterprise businesses getting their employees and networking teams all on the same page with new software and task, it’s part of the digital adoption process.

In short, as explained by WalkMe, “digital adoption is defined as achieving a state in which digital tools are being used as intended, and to their fullest extent.”

However, as much as you might think you have a solid sequence of digital adoption in your business or everyday life, it’s likely not up to the standards of what the phrase really means. The truth is, unless people can actually use the technology they have in place (and as it was originally intended) with its full range of capabilities, it would be impossible to fully integrate it into an effective workflow.

At the same time, digital tools have a higher barrier to their productivity and innovation, which makes it tough to have a seamless digital transformation progress.

With all of this in mind, today we are going to highlight not only the importance of achieving digital adoption within your business, but also how it’s going to continue to play a major role in the coming months and years for enterprises.

Technological Advancement vs. Digital Adoption

When looking at how technological advancements have changed the way businesses and people connect in the world today, it seems to be changing daily. Not just through the means and power of the internet, but instead how it’s changing every single aspect of life and business as we know it.

Looking at some of the most popular and game changing technological trends anticipated through 2019, we’d be focusing on:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Machine Learning
  • Chatbots
  • Robotic Process Automation
  • The Internet of Things

The common theme with each of these advancements, is that they are part of a useful tool, software or system that allows for faster data processing, connectivity, and getting work done.

However, without digital adoption in place, these game changing aspects could simply be looked at as just new tools and solutions that aren’t being used to their full potential.

A perfect example of this can be seen with chatbots, which are already a huge focus for many brands and businesses in the world today. Vistage has a great resource on many of the top technological advancements that are changing the business world in 2019, and had the following stats to share on chatbot usage as well.

  • 85 percent of transactions will be possible without the use of a human being by 2020.
  • 69 percent of consumers cite speed as their criteria in assessing satisfaction in a customer service transaction.

They also had the following nugget on The Internet of Things as well:

IoT devices will be in 300 million homes worldwide by 2020. About 85 percent of companies are expected to imbed IoT in their solutions to drive efficiencies and personalize experiences. Companies are starting to unlock the value of devices and data, from grocery lists to television viewing. Moving into 2019-2020, the emphasis will shift from selling 1.0 devices toward examining data in real time.

But again, as we reflect to digital adoption, without the necessary solution in place, these are all just new features and tools to play with. Time and time again we are seeing billions of dollars being spent on flashy new tools and devices for enterprise resource planning, only to see numerous failures and lowered business projections afterwards.

Often, an inefficient implementation process acts as the main reason why business fail to adopt new technological tools. For digital adoption to fully take place, it’s not about picking the right system or platform, it’s also about making sure everyone is on the same page and willing to make the transition.

Where the Demand and Desire for Digital Adoption is Lacking

Just like anything in life, one needs to walk through a process and learn how to do something before becoming an expert at it.

Take mobile devices for instance. You could use them to send text messages and call the contacts on your phone, but you could also use the same device to boost productivity in countless tasks you’re doing on a day-to-day basis.

The same is true for businesses of all sizes. Whether it’s a small mom and pop or a Fortune 500 company, they likely are using (and paying) for a wide range of tools and solutions to power their business, but are only using them for a mere fraction of what they can actually accomplish. The same advanced technological abilities that are neglected do not only act as an oversight, but a nuisance as well.

This means there is a huge demand for digital adoption across both areas, but most people and business owners aren’t willing to put in the time, work, and effort to see what’s possible.

This is where automation and a digital adoption platform comes into play.

In a recent article on this exact topic, WalkMe has the following to share:

A WalkMe study of 117 customers and more than 117,240 end users of HCM and CRM systems found that the ideal length of a business process is under 70 seconds. It also found that when employees don’t need to complete more than five steps, there is a 70% success rate by users.

On the other hand, if employees need to complete more than five steps, it’s likely they will drop off before finishing the process. The implications range from diminished business performance to employee frustration and diminished morale.

Using business process automation helps to reduce the length of business processes and delivers a range of other benefits from increased productivity to transparency.

By this we can see that there is a huge demand and need for digital adoption in many forms, but the process needs to be quick and effective in order for the end user to experience the implementation process successfully.

Ultimately, the lack of digital adoption that we are seeing in the industry today is as a result of these complications and the drop off from businesses, employees, and IT staff who don’t oversee the projects and tasks through to the end. However, when the time and effort is put into place to make sure digital adoption takes place, the result is magic.

The Future of Digital Adoption and Where We Are Headed

There is no doubt about it — digital adoption is here, and the individuals and businesses that take advantage of the huge opportunity in place are going to find themselves way ahead of the competition in nearly all facets. This is especially true for enterprise level businesses that would see exponential growth and scalability across their network of employees, co-workers and data driven results and operations.

However, keep in mind that it’s not just about businesses, but also how devices and technology is used in the world today. Just like how mobile device usage was mentioned earlier, digital adoption is something that should be focused on across all platforms and means in life. As a business owner or tech specialist, this is something that should always stick within your train of thought — as it’s not just about the task at hand, but how users (employees) can work with such solutions and advancements as well.

Now is the best time to start focusing on digital adoption in both life and business, and after reading through this quick resource guide and refresher you should have more focus and motivation than ever before.

5 Key Lessons From Top YouTubers

This may be of interest to you.

I’ve had a YouTube channel since 2006, around the same time I started blogging over at Beyond the Rhetoric. Coincidentally, this is also around the same time that I met John Chow for the first time. Oh, and as it turns out John’s YouTube channel started up in 2006 as well. Go figure. At the time, many of us didn’t really see YouTube as a viable place to make money directly; rather it was an easy (and free) place to host our videos. We take this sort of thing for granted these days.

Of course, so much has changed over the years, and YouTube is certainly not immune to that. Many a star has been discovered on YouTube — it’s how Justin Bieber got his start — and many more have come to turn YouTube into their full-time careers. It’s not too late to get started either. Considering that the top 10 highest paid YouTubers of 2018 all made over $14 million, that’s nothing to sneeze at. And many more are making more than comfortable bank too.

So, what can learn from these top YouTubers who are literally making millions of dollars each year on the platform?

The Riches Are in the Niches

While there will always be exceptions to this rule, it’s generally true that you have a better shot at success on YouTube if you stick to a relatively narrow niche than if you post videos about everything under the sun. This way, subscribers and viewers can know exactly what to expect from you.

It’s the same thing you see with blogs, on Instagram, and other similar types of platforms. That person is known for finance. That Instagrammer is known for fancy food. That YouTuber is known for makeup tutorials. You can veer outside of your wheelhouse now and then, like with travel vlogs or Q&A sessions, but from a business standpoint, it’s usually best to stick within an understood vertical.

The Bucks Are in the Brands

Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes that budding YouTubers-to-be make is that they assume they’ll be able to make all their money through AdSense integration. Those are the ads that run directly on YouTube itself, including pre-roll video ads, banner ads and the like. You need to get into the YouTube Partner Program for that, which requires 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months.

And while you certainly can make some money that way, you won’t make a lot of money that way. Many, many factors play into this, but you can typically only expect a buck or two for every 1,000 views you get on a video. This will depend on how many views are monetized, what niche you’re in, how much advertisers are willing to pay for that niche, and so forth. Some YouTubers might make as much as $6 or $7 CPM, but it’s still not a lot.

You can get an estimate through the YouTube Money Calculator on Influencer Marketing Hub.

Do you see a problem with this picture? I used John’s channel as an example here and it says that he only has a total estimated earnings of under $30,000. The channel trailer that he runs has had over 60,000 views (as of this writing) and they’re estimating he’s only earned $118 from it.

But that’s only from the AdSense. As John has mentioned before, he uses YouTube as a lead generation machine. When people convert on offers he promotes, he gets way more than a few bucks. It’s all about finding monetization opportunities beyond Adsense.

For some channels, that could be affiliate marketing or merch. For many more, however, it’s about sponsored content and branded content. Working with brands directly as an “influencer” will land you a lot more money for that video than the couple bucks you’ll get through the default monetization.

It’s All About That Watch Time

Among the top ten highest-paid YouTube stars listed in the article I linked above, half of them are gaming channels. It used to be the case that YouTubers might chase after subscribers and views (both of which are still good things), but at this point, watch time is much, much more important in terms of built-in earning potential.

When you consider that a typical YouTube video might be five to 10 minutes in length, and most viewers don’t watch it all the way through, you’re not getting many minutes per view. Now, contrast that to someone who livestreams their multi-hour gaming session, where many viewers stick around for far more than a few minutes. That one video could easily garner over 100 minutes of watch time from a single viewer.

With that kind of time frame, YouTube can insert many more ads during the video itself (there must be a certain length of time between ad breaks), which then corresponds to more earning potential.

Target the Big Audience

Conversely, the highest earning YouTube channel earned an estimated $22 million in 2018. It’s called Ryan ToysReview and it features a 7-year-old boy who reviews toys. Why is this important? His target audience (or rather the audience his parents and whoever else helps him run the channel are targeting) is other children.

Let me let you in on a little secret. Kids can watch the same thing over and over and over again and never really get tired of it. The same child can watch the same video a dozen times. By contrast, most other videos will typically only be watched once per person. That unlocks some real earning potential too, because you are getting more views (and more watch time) with no additional effort.

The other point worth mentioning is that all of the top YouTube channels tend to skew toward the younger end of the spectrum too. Even when you look at more controversial content, like PewDiePie and Logan Paul, they’re mostly targeting tweens and teens. These are the big audiences on YouTube.

What’s Unique Is You

But really, far and away the biggest lesson you can take home from top YouTubers is that you need to have a unique personality. The most unique part of your YouTube channel, the thing that no one else can fully replicate, is you. Love them or hate them, Logan Paul and his brother Jake Paul have big personalities, and their target demographics gravitate toward them.

Music video and makeup tutorial mogul Jeffree Star, with his $18 million annual earnings, is visually striking in his presentation. That’s how he manages to sell $100 million worth of cosmetic products each year too. Let your personality come shining through. That’s what will distinguish you from everyone else.

Do you have a YouTube channel? What sort of videos do you post? What YouTube goals do you have?

7 Google Doc Hacks That Will Skyrocket Your Writing Productivity

This may be of interest to you.

Do you want to become a faster, more productive writer?

Whether you’re a professional content writer for a company, blog owner, a student with assignments, or an aspiring author; you want to be able to write as quickly as possible while still being able to produce quality work.

As a writer, you’re probably using Google Docs, one of the most popular tools for writers today. The ability to write from any device, easily share your work, and collaborate with others on the same document is incredibly useful. So, did you know that a tool you’ve been using all along could help you increase your writing productivity? If you’re using Google Docs just to type words onto a page, you’re not taking advantage of all the awesome features it has to offer.

Check out these 7 Google Doc hacks that will skyrocket your writing productivity.

1. Try Voice Typing

Sometimes your fingers don’t move as fast as your thoughts do. If this is the case for you, try voice typing on Google Docs. Voice typing can really help you get your thoughts out quickly. Then, you can go back and edit in order to turn your thoughts into a well-written piece.

In Google Docs, go to Tools, and then click on Voice typing. Alternatively, the shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+S. Now, a microphone icon should appear. Simply click on the microphone to start using the tool.

Once the microphone changes to a red color you know it’s listening and you can start to speak. You can add punctuation by saying “period”, “question mark”, “comma”, and so on.

2. Do Research Without Leaving Google Docs

Researching is a very time-consuming process involved in writing. For instance, according to statistics, the average blog post takes 3.5 hours to write. But if you have to do a lot of research, that time can increase dramatically. So, if you want to increase your writing productivity, you’ll want to make researching easier. Luckily, Google Docs allows you to do research online without having to switch between tabs, which will save you a lot of time.

Just click on Tools >> Explore. Doing this will open up a sidebar where you can search your own docs and the web for anything you need. For instance, type the terms “customer service” into the search bar and the Explore tool will give you Cloud Search results of your own documents containing the term, the top web articles on the subject, and even related images.

3. Use Bookmarks for Long Documents

When writing a long document like an essay, novel or even long-form blog post, you’ll periodically need to jump between sections for reference.

This can be difficult to do in a long document though and you can waste a lot of time scrolling through to find a specific section. To avoid that situation and save yourself time, use bookmarks to easily jump between sections.

To add a bookmark, place your cursor at the beginning of the section you want to link to. Then, click on Insert >> Bookmark. Google Docs will then add a little blue bookmark at the start of the section. Next, right click the Link option under the bookmark and click Copy link address.

Now, in a different part of your document you’ll want to highlight the text you want to hyperlink to the Bookmark you just created. Highlight the text and click Insert >> Link like you normally would, but choose Bookmarks from the dropdown menu instead and choose your desired location.

4. Go Back to Previous Drafts

You might think that because of Google Doc’s auto-save feature, you wouldn’t be able to go back to previous drafts of your work. But, you’d be wrong! You can easily revert back to old versions of your documents. This is especially handy if you accidentally lose an entire section of your writing when failing to copy and paste properly.

To go back to a previous draft, go to File >> Version history >> See version history. On the right side of the screen you’ll be able to see different versions of your document at particular dates and times. By clicking on the version you’re able to see the changes you’ve made. If you want to use an older version of your document, simply click the Restore this version button. You even have the option of naming your versions in order to identify them easier.

5. Write Offline

What a better way to be a more productive writer than using your extra time to write! With Google’s offline editing feature you can write and edit your work anywhere you go without an internet connection. This means you can write on public transit, in the park, on the beach — the possibilities are endless.

To enable offline editing, go to the Google Doc home screen and click on the menu button in the top left corner (3 horizontal lines) and go to Settings. Here you can toggle offline editing on or off. Just make sure you’re signed into your Google account before trying out offline editing, because without an internet connection, you won’t be able to sign in.

6. Get Some Add-Ons

Apps and add-ons are everywhere; you can get them on your smartphone and Google Chrome browser — you can even get them for specifically for Google Docs. Google Doc add-ons are a great way to increase your productivity and they can help you with a number of different tasks.

In your Google Doc, go to Add-ons and then click on Get add-ons. A window will then pop up displaying a wide range of popular Google Doc add-ons. There are add-ons for creating graphs and charts (LucidChart Diagrams), easily adding a digital signature (PandaDoc), and even sending faxes online (HelloFax).

Click on the add-on you want and then click on the blue + (plus sign) button to install it. You’ll then need to allow the app to access your Google account. Once the add-on is installed, you can access it by going to the Add-ons menu and clicking on the add-on by name.

7. Add Words to Your Personal Dictionary

Do you ever get annoyed by those red squiggly lines underneath certain words you know are spelled correctly? Google Docs can’t always recognize atypical words, so it can be very distracting and it can even affect your productivity.

In order to eliminate those distracting red squiggly lines, add them to your personal dictionary. You can do this by right clicking the red underlined word and clicking Add “word” to dictionary or by going to Tools >> Spelling and grammar >> Personal dictionary, typing the word and clicking Add.

Over to You

Whether you’re writing for your career or a hobby, being able to write well and do it in a timely manner is important. Simply sitting down and trying to write faster doesn’t work though, which is why you need all of the tricks and shortcuts you can get. With these Google Doc hacks, you’ll be able to easily step up your writing game.

How To Scale Instagram to Work for Your Blog

This may be of interest to you.

All social media platforms are awesome because they can increase momentum and brand visibility quickly. Several years back you would have to rely on link building and networking to build brand awareness and increase traffic. Even though these are important now, it’s important to understand how social media plays an important role today in building your business. With that said, I want to explore Instagram and how you can scale it to make sure it works for you and your business. Keep in mind, I have spoken about Facebook and Twitter several times and the strategies I use to make sure I get as much engagement as possible. If you want to view these guides, then all you have to do is a quick search in the search menu to find those. As a matter of fact, here they are now:

I’ll admit that different content and marketing will work with different niches, however the process is the same. If you can manage to boost momentum on these two networks, then you’ll be able to increase conversions. That’s not all because Instagram has been growing by 10% each year so it’s important you make use of this network going forward.

630

Let’s get started and explore how you can get Instagram to work for you and build brand awareness.

Start by Connecting

Whenever I setup a new account I find ways to integrate what other accounts I have and those that will add value to my current account. For example, with Instagram, you have the ability to connect Facebook and Instagram so they are linked as one. What does this do? It allows you to streamline the entire process of posting and sharing because you just have to share once and everything will be organized correctly. One thing I’ve always had a problem doing is making sure I keep everything updated so my followers on all my accounts can see what I have posted and shared. However, with so many accounts I sometimes have a hard time automating the entire process. This can be accomplished in two ways.

First, as mentioned you can connect whatever accounts can be connected to streamline the entire process. For example, Facebook and Instagram can be connected so whenever you post on either/or, it’ll show up on both networks. Secondly, you can use apps like Bufferapp.com to automate the entire process however this will only be useful depending on the compatible platforms. With that said, they are many other platforms which have their own tools so do a quick search within Google and start setting them up now.

Social media is massive and can generate enormous traffic to your page so DON’T let this opportunity slide.

Popular Tag’s Matter

Social media platforms have come up with an awesome way to organize the information being shared. Just like search engines knew it was important to organize information because of the amount of content being shared, social media believes in the same thing. The easier people are able to find information and value, the more they will use the networks to post, share and link. With that said, it’s important you use the popular tags that relate to your content because this will help your content get found easily on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The cool thing is adding tags is NOT hard at all because you just have to find those which are always trending and popular. The more popular your tags, the easier your content will be found and MOST likely shared by others. Here are a few tricks you can use right now to find those tags relevant to you:

Compatible Tools – when things start to become popular, you have others who develop tools to streamline certain aspects of research. For example, you have http://hashtagify.me/ that many people are using to find popular hashtags for Twitter. This tool will give you a breakdown of popular #hashtags and those that are increasing within the upcoming weeks. If you do a quick search within Google, I’m sure you’ll be able to find tools for different social platforms.

Competition – one way you can find #hashtags is by looking at what the others are doing especially your competition. They have been around longer and have done their research. This means they know what tags are working and what are not.

Trial and Error – sometimes you’ll be in a niche which is brand new and with very little competition. In this case I encourage all of you to try different things and see which ones are working. Soon you’ll be able to narrow down the tags which convert the best for you and you can use them going forward.

Timing Matters

Keep in mind with almost everything you do, timing matters. This is in reference to the business you are starting, the time you market and the time it takes to grow your business. In reference to social media, timing matters big time because people skim online at different times and it’s been proven some hours are better than others. There are many factors that will determine what time someone decides to come online with the MOST popular being day of week and time during the day. I’ll admit the month does play a role however NOT as big as the other two which I’ve just discussed now. For example,

You’ll notice many people are more likely to come online during the weekdays from Tuesday to Thursday. Next, they are more likely to be online on a Sunday because this is typically a stay home day. Monday are slow because people return to work and are busy going through emails and Friday’s people tend to leave early to start their weekend. The rest of the days during the week people surf because they are done catching up on work and have some time available. Here’s something else,

You’ll notice that people tend to be online during work hours because a computer is so accessible. They will surf during the afternoon starting at lunch going throughout the day. It’s amazing what you can learn by doing a little trial and error. With that said, let’s explore how we can do a few tests to figure out the best time for you to post online.

First, Google Analytics is a great way to track days and landing pages. It’s also a great way to track timing my hour because you can switch the view from within the panel. This will give you DATA into what days and timings have been working over a specific period. Secondly, you can use advanced tracking tools which might cost you on a monthly basis to understand your visitors pattern. I would suggest using Google Analytics however if you have some money to spare then these tools can give you real-time insight into your Instagram engagement. It’s also important to keep in mind that Instagram has their own custom tools which you can use to understand browsing history. Again, some will cost money while others are free to sue through Instagram.

In the end, once you have a view into what converts and how you can optimize your engagement on Instagram, you’ll be able to build brand awareness quickly, and with very little effort since you’ll know what tags and timing works well.

Like Others

Here’s something that many people DON’T know or just simply refuse to take part in because they feel it hurts their overall objective. In order for you to be discovered, it’s important you like others within Instagram. I was always against liking other because it would create competition, but when I started to I noticed something amazing happen. I started to get relevant shares and likes back from people. I guess it’s just like content marketing and linking to others who are within your niche. When you build a link to valuable content from yours, you’ve increased the chances that some of these same people will link back to you.

To increase engagement many platforms like Twitter, Instagram and even WordPress (blogging) alerts the owner when someone links or likes. This gives them a chance to take a look at who linked back and explore their content at the same time.  This is something I learned from personal experience because whenever someone would link or like me, I would always go back and check who this person was. In return if I felt they were relevant, I would link and start to follow the because they would be good for growth going forward. If you have been online long enough then you know the importance of building a network in order to increase brand awareness. This is the exact same reason why so many bloggers encourage outreach especially when you are just starting out.

Final Thoughts

It’s amazing how social media has changed the way we interact online. It’s also amazing how this rather free system can help boost your brand within a few short weeks. However, at the same time I’m surprised at the amount of people who don’t jump within Instagram to build momentum and this is slowing down their growth. I encourage all of you to take some time to explore what options you have available in terms of social media and at the same time encourage all of you to join Instagram connecting it to your Facebook account. This will help accelerate growth and will help build brand momentum quickly.

Remembering Jim Bouton and His Keynote at Affiliate Summit

This may be of interest to you.

Jim Bouton, former New York Yankees pitcher, author of Ball Four, creator of Big League Chew, sportscaster, activist, and a bunch of other things, passed away on July 10, 2019, at 80 years old.

Shawn Collins, Jim Bouton, and Missy Ward

I discovered his book, Ball Four, in the 1990s, and I just loved the book. So much that one of my first affiliate sites was BallFourBook.com, which I started in 2000 to promote the book with Amazon links. Jim’s site still has me listed as one of the fansites.

In the late 1990’s I interviewed Jim for a zine I was publishing at the time called Velocity NYC. The interview also ran on NJ.com, the online version of the Newark Star-Ledger, where I was the weekend sports editor for years for the online edition.

Bouton updated Ball Four every decade, and in the 2000 update, he mentioned my affiliate site in his book. I was out of my mind excited.

BallFourBook.com

So anyway, I was in touch with him over the years and as Affiliate Summit was taking off I thought he’d make an awesome keynote speaker. We had him come in and keynote Affiliate Summit East 2006 in Orlando.

I loved his keynote, but even better we chatted for a couple of hours before the keynote and he had me in stitches with his old baseball stories. It was amazing to hear first-person accounts of times with Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, and other legends from the 60s.

It was one of my favorite days, and I will always cherish it.

RIP Jim.

10 Blogging Lessons You Can Learn from Print Media

This may be of interest to you.

Progress marches on! It’s a brave new world and the internet is becoming the new reality. Gone are the days when we would peruse through the glossy pages of a magazine and read newspapers that were delivered daily to our front door. These mediums still exist but are slowly becoming a way of the past. Yet there is still a lot to be learned from the past. By looking to the quality of print magazines and following suit, copywriters can take their content into the new millennium and stand out from the masses.

Morris_and_Company_Textile_Printing_Merton_Abbey

This new medium is opening doors for anyone and everyone to have a voice and express their opinions and views. But as a direct result we are suffering from content overload. Over 27 million pieces of content are shared daily. The internet is overrun with personal blogs, YouTube channels, Instagram Feeds and Twitter accounts.  Ironically, the easier it is to get your voice out there, the harder it is to be heard.

What does it take for content to garnish attention and notoriety when the haystack is so massive and you are but just a needle? How do you make your content so irresistible that readers can’t help but pay attention?

Online writers need to take their cues from the writers of old where professionalism was paired with substance and credibility. Let me share with you the 10 most well held secrets of Print Media. You, too, can be heralded into the same class as writers from The New Yorker or Harper’s Magazine. All it takes is a little patience and the following tips and your content will make headlines over the internet as we brave this new world together!

  1. Do Your Research

Research is the key to unlocking great content. Backing up your claims with substantiated data from reputable sources gives credence and authority to your site. With the online world, being as it is, this process is becoming far more intricate and demanding and copywriters must exercise patience and perseverance.

Apps such as Evernote are fantastic tools to aid you in the process. Here you can clip, save and store interesting pieces of information and even organize it according to subject area. You are only as strong as the processes you employ so seek to set up systems that make your job easier and lighten the load over the long-haul. The best copywriters are the ones that continuously gather, organize and evaluate their research in a systematic manner. Creating your own database allows you the freedom to generate authentic and factual content that will stun and surprise the competition.

Take the opportunity to scrutinize your research to discover that one special angle that is uniquely yours. Innovative copywriters seek to find hidden treasures and display them in such a fashion that the public will be poised on the edge of their seats. Valuable in-depth ideas lie hidden in a sea of data and research; just asking to be explored. Find your hidden treasures and you’ll discover riches beyond your wildest dreams!

  1. Seek to Teach

Learning is a life-long process and your readers are like sponges, constantly looking to the internet for educational content that will help them soak up knowledge. Seek to teach and enlighten your audience. Find unique ways to deliver messages that put a spin on old subjects and allow readers to view it from a completely new angle and perspective. Write content that is educational and you’ll find that word of mouth advertising will follow.

If you’re looking for inspiration, look no further than The New Yorker or Harper’s. Here is where you will find thoughtfully well-crafted pieces that educate and inform readers in a creative and awe-inspiring format. It doesn’t matter what your subject matter is, there is always a way to create intrigue and excitement. You just need to put your thinking cap on and draw outside the lines.

  1. Serve Your Content Objective With Personality

Objectivity with personality is the balance you’re hoping to achieve. Print Journalism has mastered this art and if you’re smart you’ll take your lessons from this established medium and make it part of your copywriting journey. Your audience is looking to you for credible and factual information that is well-supported and validated. Opinions must not overshadow facts if you want your readers to take your seriously. However, if you only seek to inform than you will miss that vital opportunity to connect with your visitors on a deeper level. Adding humor, interest and irony to your writing gives your content spice and allows you to have a unique voice that helps you stand out from the crowd.  Striking the balance between informing and entertaining is a difficult skill to acquire.  However, if you truly perfect this art you will open a whole new level of readership merely by infusing your personality into your content.

  1. Master Your Craft

Grammar is important. The authority of your site comes down to two things; the quality of your content and the means by which it is presented. Imagine yourself reading an article in The New Yorker. Would you expect to find grammatical errors and spelling mistakes gracing the glossy pages of this prestigious magazine?

Proofreaders and editors would have combed through the material two to three times over. Their job is to make sure that published articles are completely devoid of any errors that would undermine the credibility of the magazine itself.

Your content must hold up to the same scrutiny. The only difference is that you must be your own worst critic; a proofreader, editor and analyst. What’s on the line is the validity and authority of your content. Professionally written pieces must pass the grammar and spelling test to enter into the expert realm and be taken seriously by the public at large. You can always choose to hire someone for this step of the process or painstakingly peruse over your material yourself. It matters not who does it but that it gets done and done well. Your job is to present material that reflects your best work. Press the spell check button and study your grammar diligently. The authority of your work depends on it!

  1. Be the Authority

The words you write will impact the lives of many readers. Take pride in your work and do your research before you sign any piece of work and publish it as your own. Follow the example of Print media writers. To even be published in a magazine their content must undergo intense scrutiny. Each and every statement they make is backed up by multiple reliable sources. Their status as an expert is evident merely by being published in a journal. To be noticed in the online world you, too, must raise your standards of practice.  Create content that will stand the test of time as the online world strives to catch up with its predecessor; print media.

Readers look to the internet for accurate and precise information on a wide variety of topics from medical advice to tax laws. Expert opinions and substantiated facts are what they are hoping to discover. Systems are just beginning to come into place to help users differentiate fact from fiction. Google has even put forth a set of guidelines called Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines . The hope is to raise the bar and establish authority for any information lying within the pages of its search engine results.

Structures such as E-A-T and YMYL are setting higher standards for online content thus creating a measuring stick by which readers can determine the credibility of claims made by individual bloggers and copywriters alike. You may ask, “what is E-A-T and YMYL?” These acronyms stand for “Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness” and “Your Money or Your Life”

To rank high throughout the E-A-T content must possess a high level in all three categories. YMYL is a set of pages that details information that holds a high degree of authority. To grace the pages of the YMYL your content must meet a certain level of expertise and authority.

Be the authority by being an expert in your niche area. Your traffic will thank you!

  1. Specify, Specify, Specify

Online content must present language that is digestible to a wide audience. Your content needs to be comprehensive yet precise. Vague language suggests that you are only somewhat aware of the message you wish to deliver. Words such as “very”, “a lot”, “often” or “heavy” imply that your understanding of the topic at hand is only superficial.

Online writers could take a lesson or two from print media experts. You would never see such vague terms parading across the pages of a big-name magazine. The key to creating eye-catching material is to be as specific as possible. The online world is chock full of content. The only way to get noticed is to create value in your work through current facts, statistics and figures that serve to support your claims and validate your message.

  1. Fact Check Everything

Fact-check all your online writing as if it was headed out for publication in The New York Times. It can’t be said enough; you must check, check and check again!

The facts you use to support your work must come from substantiated sources. The statistics and figures you put forward support conclusions that you draw from this material. To hold water and be considered valid, your supporting documentation must come from a noteworthy source.

Your reputation is what’s at stake. By ensuring that you’ve got your facts straight in each piece of work, you will consistently protect your credibility and thus your status as an expert in your field.

  1. Aim for Depth

The deeper you go the stronger the pull. What you deliver is not as important as how you deliver it. Any subject can be made interesting if approached from the right angle.

A powerful story lies in the writer’s ability to draw readers in with tenets of sadness, love, happiness and hope. Engaging human emotions by weaving them throughout the fabric of your content, allows your audience to connect with your material in a deep and meaningful way. This philosophy is heavily engrained within print media but is only just getting airplay in the online world.

The greater the depth, the more your readers will get out of your material. Seek to create memorable content by adding elements of synchronicity and intrigue. The relationships you develop with your readers will stand the test of time so don’t be afraid to add a little flair here and there!

  1. Slice a Story Into Digestible Bits

Like a meal that you cut up for an infant, you must chop up your material into bite size portions to allow your readers to fully digest what you’re feeding them. Put a little honey on it so it goes down smoothly and breaks up the rough pieces.

Large concepts run over multiple articles, scaffold learning for your readers.  Whether you choose to draw in a large cast of characters or sprinkle humor over the entire course of your content, you must find ways to help your audience process the message you are attempting to convey.

Making connections to other events or using fun facts to create momentary relief are other good ways to help cut your content into smaller more consumable portions

  1. Diversify

Variety is the spice of life. The world is a mosaic of different people, experiences and points of view. Look to any print magazine and you will see evidence of this. Including stories that cross a gamete of topics with diverse perspectives, allows your content to appeal to a wider audience and gives depth to your work. Broadening your horizons allows readers to connect with your content in ways you never thought possible!

From Print to the Web: Good Copy Carries Over

There are always lessons to be learned from the past and things we can take with us as we move into a bright new future. Change is inevitable so we must embrace it with open arms. The online world is upon us but we cannot forget the lessons print media has taught us. Let’s move forward into a new and exciting era of online content but not forget the valuable gifts print media has given us over the years. Make your content stick out by using what’s old and making it new again!

Rocket Spanish Review

If you’re planning to learn Spanish so that you can communicate with the locals during a short holiday, there are several ‘learn Spanish’ courses online that you could try. However, most of them are not that good.

Very often the phrases taught are either outdated or too formal. You’ll sound ridiculous to the locals who do not speak that way at all. It can be embarrassing. To save yourself the humiliation, it’s best to get a Spanish course that has been proven to help you learn Spanish well.

One of the best Spanish courses online is Rocket Spanish. In fact, if you Googled the term “learn Spanish”, it’s inevitable to come across many sites that mention Rocket Spanish.

This is a brand that has a wide variety of different language courses designed to help beginners learn languages and reach an intermediate level. Once you get to intermediate, you may consider advancing further, depending on your interest in the language.

Let’s take a closer look and see why Rocket Spanish is so popular and effective…

The Good Points:

1) The course is laid out in a very systematic way to guide the beginner through the different modules so that they can improve gradually. By following this system, they’ll develop a strong foundation in Spanish and it will help them advance much faster as they learn the more advanced phrases and sentence structures.

2) There are several modules in Rocket Spanish that are designed to make you proficient in the language. Here’s a brief breakdown of what you’ll find inside:

* Interactive audio lessons
* Language and Culture Lessons
* The “Survival Kit”
* “My Advanced Learning”
* Flash Cards
* Quizzes
* Forum

There’s even a forum where you can communicate with people who have purchased this product. It’s a good place to share tips and more.

3) This is a bestselling course online with many satisfied customers. It’s proven to work. So, there’s no need to worry it not being up to standard.

4) There is a voice recognition software within the course. So, when you’re learning Spanish, you can test yourself with this software to see if a native speaker would understand what you’re saying.

You do not want to be in a situation where you think you’re speaking Spanish, but everyone else is wondering what language you’re speaking.

5) There are 31 audio lessons that you have lifetime access to. The phrases and words you learn will allow you to have a proper conversation in different settings. You’ll not be learning pointless phrases like, “This is a pretty flower”, etc. No no… you’ll learn lines that teach you how to order meals or a drink, how to get directions, etc. Useful and very relevant lines.

6) There’s a lot of convenience here. You can download the audio training into your mp3 player or tablet and listen to them while you’re on the go. In other words, you can be learning Spanish while walking in the mall or driving to work, etc. This will really accelerate your learning.

7) This course is covered by a 60-day refund policy. This is enough time to learn and speak Spanish with the program. If despite your best efforts you see no improvement (highly unlikely), you can always get your money back. Despite the refund policy, this product has a very low refund rate because it is that good.

8) Considering the amount of value, you’re getting, the pricing is ridiculously low. You’ll save so much more money with Rocket Spanish instead of hiring a tutor or going for classes.

The Bad Points:

1) Learning any language will take you time and effort. While Rocket Spanish is an excellent training course, you’ll still need to study it and practice speaking it. Consistency and patience is required. You can’t master the language in 3 days.

If you’re looking for miracles, this program is not it. If you’re willing to work a little and master Spanish, this guide is perfect for you.

2) This is an online course. You’ll need a computer with a working internet connection to purchase and access it.

Should You Get It?

All the Rocket languages products are great. This is an established brand that’s popular all around the world. If you want to learn Spanish quickly and easily, Rocket Spanish will really help you.

All the audio lessons are geared towards people who want to speak the language relatively fluently. The beauty of Rocket Spanish is that you can go from not knowing a word of Spanish to holding a conversation in Spanish in 2 to 4 weeks.

Of course, to get really good, it’s best to speak to the locals and gradually improve your vocabulary and fluency. But if you’re just starting out, you can’t go wrong with Rocket Spanish.

Latest SEO Trends, Tips and Discussions to Improve Rankings in 2019

This may be of interest to you.

SEO… no matter what year it is, what your business focus, or what industry you are in, it’s always going to be a discussion.

When someone types something into Google, they actually are in buying or engagement mode. It’s not like social media where everything is scattered and your ads just happen to appear to an audience while scrolling through their feed. Throw voice search and mobile usage into the mix, and rules are changing at even faster rates.

If someone searches for something on Google, they are looking for information, to be entertained, or to purchase something. This is why Google Ads has always worked so well — as it’s hard to find a more targeted audience and monetization opportunity.

Even with all of that in mind, SEO and how to effectively rank content and websites in Google is still changing all the time.

What’s New In SEO In 2019

To help in the never ending journey to rank your site content higher, let’s take a look at some of the recent trends and discussions in relation to SEO in 2019.

Should you be linking out to other websites from your own?

With so much focus on link juice and getting the domain and page authority of your site up, there is often a concern for when sites should link out to other sites — and if they should at all.

This was actually a topic of discussion during one of the latest #AskGoogleWebmasters video series (a new series from Google) and was also featured on SERoundTable. You can see the short video and answer below.

This obviously isn’t brain surgery, and there have been many tests by site owners to see if linking out to other sites actually helps with their own SEO or not. This can also be affected y whether such links are DO or NO follow.

In summary, (as provided by John Mueller’s answer):

I would watch out for a few types of links though. In particular if you’re linking out to a site because of an arrangement, like you linked to me and I’ll link to you. Or because it’s an advertisement or if it’s being done in your site’s comments and you’re not really sure how good those links are.

So the best answer here? Leave the outbound links to high-quality sites and only those you are referencing to back up a statement or to provide further value to your audience.

How does Google Rankings actually work?

This has been one of the most commonly asked questions over the past two decades ever since Google first came out onto the scene. However, only the most important and secret people at Google really know the answer — and to be accurate, it’s actually changing all of the time.

Search Engine Journal has a recent article on this, which highlights and mentions the following:

There are hundreds/thousands of ranking factors. Google doesn’t tell us what they are in detail (which, by the by, seems to me to be reasonable).

They do tell us that they group them: Topicality, Quality, PageSpeed, RankBrain, Entities, Structured Data, Freshness… and others.

From a site owner and content marketer perspective, most of us are only looking at SEO from much smaller variables — which is often content, keywords, and building backlinks.

Val Zamulin, founder of Seologist, recommends that every site owner take advantage of every once of information Google occasionally leaks in reference to how their algorithm works. During a recent interview, Val went on to state:

One of the best ways to continually compete in the world of SEO and getting an edge ahead of your competition, is to track the performance of your main site and inner pages within a heavy data excel or Google docs sheet. Such information contained within the report should include the basics of site rankings, keywords, and in/outbound links — but to also include updated reports and data on pagespeed, rankbrain and last updated post data as well. By having all of this information documented and outlined in front of you, it will make for a much improved SEO report and strategy for tracking results and performance over time.

Such methods are also outlined within the full article from SEJ, as they have several documents and sheets ranking Google Ranking Factors, the power and influence of rich elements, bid based bidding, and how to also factor in multi-device rankings.

At what point should a website start focusing on SEO?

This is a very similar question to one we often hear in the monetization and affiliate marketing space — which is when should you try and start making money with your site? The difference between this question, and the original SEO-focused one we pose above are two completely different topics and worlds apart.

For the sake of this article, we will focus just on the SEO question, but if you would like to learn more about web you should focus on site monetization, you can read up/listen on that here.

In reference to when you should start SEO for a website or blog, the answer is FROM DAY ONE — even if your site isn’t ready to launch yet.

This can best be summarized into the following elements and factors: (source)

  • Creating an optimized Coming Soon page
  • Optimizing for mobile users
  • Increasing site speed
  • Using long-tail keywords
  • Creating an XML sitemap

If you are launching a WordPress site, this shouldn’t be hard to accomplish — as there are many free plugins that can help with this.

However, keep all of these elements in mind and try to improve the performance of your site to the MAX before officially going live with your site.

Making sure your site speed is fast as anything, that your site is already optimized for mobile and all devices, and also is already ranking in Google (even without any real content), are all ideal and a great way to give your site a mega boost when it’s first launched and ready to go.

SEO starts from day one… and never ends. This is something that every site owner needs to remember and keep working on for the life of their site.

SEO Today, Tomorrow… and Years To Come

SEO is changing all the time. It’s not just about content, keywords, and backlinks, but also adapting to the way Google ranks content and how audiences search for it.

With voice search and mobile now being used more than ever before, search phrases and keywords are no longer what they used to be. Forbes even went on to state “By 2020, 30% of all website sessions will be conducted without a screen.” — and that same article also went on to say “By January 2018, there was an average of one billion voice searches every month, proving that voice search is on the rise.

With this information now in hand, does that change or effect your SEO and content marketing strategy in anyway? It likely does.

SEO is here to stay and will greatly influence the way individuals search and find content online. And while it might be here to stay, the way it works today likely won’t be the same way it works tomorrow.
